Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a Traditional Chinese Medical method for prevention and treatment of acute and chronic diseases. It is based on irritation or stimulation of certain energetic points.

Acupuncture treatment stimulates and optimizes the entire body energy flow, so the body begins to heal itself. Stimulation utilizes special acupuncture needles at acupuncture points.

The treatment is almost painless. Many patients experience relaxation and relief immediately. Acupuncture needles are placed vertically a few millimeters in the skin. The needles remain 20 to 45 minutes before they are gently removed. Acupuncture sessions should continue one or two times per week for several weeks.

Acupuncture points are located on different meridians (pathways), running throughout the body. Within these meridians the body's vital energy, "Qi", circulates and connects the body's surface with the inner organs.

Acupuncture points are also located in areas where different nerves accumulate. Point stimulation releases endorphins and increases blood flow in those areas. Further, the organs are stimulated.

This way, acupuncture treats chronic and functional disorders, and is usually helpful with stomach and intestinal complaints, circulatory problems, and migraine headaches. It also treats pain and vegetative dysfunctions.

Acupuncture also finds use in the cosmetic field.
